Story of a lost journalist

Its night already! Wake up!

Filed under: Jim and Me Conversations — Cris @ 01:50

I was having one of my tantrums yesterday.

“What the hell is wrong with me?! Did all the stars sleep when I was born?”

I was talking to my fancy pal Mr Jim who seemed engrossed in following closely the movements of the seconds-needle in a clock that followed a time no country in the world did.

“Don’t blame the stars. What could they do”, he said without lifting his eyes from the clock.

“According to Cris’s horoscope rules, the stars have all got to stay awake when a baby is born in earth. It is when some of them go to sleep, the baby is born incomplete.”

“Oh come on Cris don’t be so hard on yourself. Just because you have a completely absent brain, you can’t say you are incomplete”

“Very considerate Jim! But why can’t I seem to remember the simple things in life?”

“Could have a connection with the totally absent thing I was telling you about”

“Hilarious Jim. But this is serious. I can’t get it into my head that people sleep in the night and stay awake in the day time and it’s not the other way around”

“That’s a tough one to remember Cris. There is so much of complex logic and principles to be applied.”

“Shut up Jim.”

“Yes Cris”

“This is a new day Jim”

“It’s close to midnight but I am not arguing.”

“Like Bryan Adams once used to sing, new day, new start and new life”

“He sang that?”

“Yeah I am sure he had the same problems. When people have problems like that Jim, they sing”

“Interesting! There is so much about humans I have to learn”

“I will teach you all Jim. Just give me a little time to learn them”

“Sure Cris”

“Yeah so this new life… I am starting it tomorrow”

“Perfect Cris! You are so dedicated”, Jim said with admiration written all over his eyes. I wasn’t sure if it was for me or that clock he was staring at.

“Thanks Jim. I will start by sleeping everyday like everyone else”

“Every night Cris, every night”

“Darn I got it wrong again!”

I knew I was forgetting something I had to do, 5 minutes later when I sat with a sudoku puzzle. I had that feeling prick me for hours but since I couldn’t sort it out I ignored it. Seven hours later my mom came to wake me up and asked me if I slept with the lights on. I blinked for a few seconds trying to understand the situation. I had to tell Jim my absent brain was showing its presence cause I grasped the whole thing in and out. And that’s when I noticed – the sun I mean. And then I knew it. I was doing it right and the rest of the world was doing it wrong. No one was supposed to work in bright sunshine – only the sun did. I didn’t have the heart to tell my mother that. I was thinking of letting the rest of the world follow its whims of strange sleeping habits when I fell asleep at precisely 11 AM.
